Glaucoma and Myopia
Short sightedness (Myopia) and glaucoma are two entirely different conditions. Short-sightedness is an error of refraction where the image is not focused on the retina. Appropriate glasses prescribed after a checkup can correct myopia. Glaucoma is a condition where the pressure inside the eye increases. Over time this high pressure can damage the retina and affect vision. Some individuals with myopia are more prone to develop glaucoma. However, not everybody with myopia develops glaucoma. Glaucoma is a treatable condition. Regular eye checkups will ensure that even if you do develop glaucoma, it will be detected early and can be treated.
