Is TB of bones curable?

  

Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection which can affect almost any organ of the body including bone. The cure for TB remains the same for bone infection as it is for infection of any other organ. You have to take a combination of drugs. The problem that is faced with treating any infection of the bone is that blood flow to the bone is very minimal. Therefore, the antibiotics that you take cannot reach the site of infection easily and the organism can survive for longer. So, treatment needs to be given for longer duration of time. Treatment for bone TB is given for a period of at least a year for it to be effective. Even so, there are cases that are refractory to treatment and therapy may have to be changed.
